Overview

R5 Consulting Engineering in partnership with Açorgeo designed the rehabilitation of a Regional Road, in the stretch connecting the Ribeira do Almeida to the Airport in São Jorge Island, Azores. The road in this stretch develops along 3.6km and is composed of two lanes. The design consisted in an improvement of the circulation conditions, by widening the road and increasing curves radius. Due to the fact of being a mountain type road, the improvements required several interventions along slopes and the execution of earth retaining structures. To note that traffic circulation during construction was a constraint so construction phasing was planned in the design.
